Piano Pieces began with a desire to learn the piano. $300 later an untunable piano was delivered from an op shop on the back of a ute. Thinking that it couldn’t be that hard, attempts were made to fix the piano. Resulting in a totally fucked up instrument. This then stopped being any kind of pathway to musicality and instead became art.
Here is a video of my nephew protesting my decision to use the piano in Piano Pieces. He still loves to play with magnets.
It featured in the 2013 Castlemaine State Festival and again in that year at the Lot 19 Sculture Show.

2013 March, Piano Pieces at the State Festival
Piano Pieces was a series of workshops and performances created for the Castlemaine State Festival and the Fringe Festival.
The workshops invited people to help deconstruct an old piano. The various pieces were cut, glued, filed, painted and twisted to create sculpture.
The performances were three nights of improvised musical events, featuring Scott Sanders, Carl Pannuzo and one very lovely jam night, open to all who came.
All activity was documented on the facebook pageand on a blog

2013 Oct, Piano Pieces at Lot 19 – Spring Sculpture Prize
Piano Pieces featured again in October 2013 at the Lot 19 Spring Sculpture Prize.
This time the piano was transformed into a thing of nature. During the opening Mark Noulton played the piano and the audience was warned not to sit too close.
